This week on Chad’s Attic, “Loki, Agent of Asgard,” “Dark Corridor,” and pop music, 80s art tributes and witch covens in “Phonogram.” Then “Into the Boxes” for some actual 80s art with Scott McCloud’s “Zot.” As the final sweltering days of summer melt us into a salty puddle, what better place to be than “Chad’s Attic!”
This week in Chad’s Attic, I’ll tell you about “Batgirl” # 42, “Black Canary” #2, “Spider-Gwen” #3, “Groot” #1 and we catch up with “The Chrononauts,” now that that series has wound up. I’ll remember when “The Fantastic Four” was truly “The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine,” instead of the world’s worst super-hero movie. and you can check out the newly re-configured attic.
In Episode X1, I continue to be bored with most “Secret Wars” crossovers, enjoyed “We Stand on Guard,” caught up with “Daredevil,” and got some culture with the graphic novel, “Fun Home.” Then I rummaged around “Into the Boxes” and pulled out one of the first, and still one of the best, “Graphic Novels,” Will Eisner’s, ” Contract with God” which is technically cheating because it wasn’t in a box, it was on a bookshelf.
I had a couple of production enhancements with Episode 10. I was buying some new jeans and decided to wander down to the toy store (Hunt’s Photo). They had a diffuser for my main light. I had considered buying one online, but this was instant gratification.
I experimented with using my condenser microphone and wiring it right in, but I didn’t think the sound was any better than the wireless lavaliere that I have been using. I sounded a little off-mic. I might have to find a wired lav mic.
Also I turned off the auto exposure and set it based on my monitor image. I think I might have gone just a shade dark, though. On my old Canon XL-1S there was a histogram feature that made setting the exposure pretty simple. I wish I had the HD version of that, but I don’t have five grand to spend. Anyway, I hope you like the video. Let me know if its too dark in the youtube comments or on the Facebook page.
Today’s “Buy” pile.

FOUR DC books! I don’t think that has happened in a week since 2012. I might start being interested in Marvel again after this Secret Wars thing is over.
Did I miss anything awesome?
Fourth of July weekend and I celebrated by leaving my show to the last minute. This week I talk about “Autumnlands,””Where Monsters Dwell,””Action,” and “Xenozoic Tales.”
This week in Chad’s Attic, we look at four new DC number one issues coming out of “Convergence.” Black Canary as a rock singer, and the 80’s history of the sorcerer, Dr. Fate.
I’m starting to feel like I’m getting into a rhythm with these things now. I’m definitely trying to crank them out fairly quickly and they might be somewhat better if I spent more time – particularly with the overlays and art close-ups, but I don’t know that that is ever really going to grow the audience. Plus I like doing some other things on Sunday.
This week would have been muck quicker if I hadn’t pulled half the gear out of the attic to record some video of some panel events at work. I had to put it all back together to shoot this week. When I finish those other things I’ll post a link here as well.
I do hava a line on some new lighting equipment, and some help with the lighting from an old friend. We might see that show up in a couple of weeks. That’s exciting.
Because half of my show this week was all about how awesome Walt Simonson is, I posted my video link to the Water Simonson Appreciation Group on Facebook. …and Walt himself liked it. Now he’s even awesomer than awesome.
